SOLSTICE// July

Ocean landscape, Tofino, British Columbia. A beach with the ocean, a big clear light blue sky with a few people swimming in the distance and one person standing on a rock. Some islands in the background. Photography by Leah Williams for Life Made Li…

I.
Time moves
with a swiftness
that catches your breath mid inhale.
Sweeping the present from under your feet-
you are the remaining plates and silverware
from a yanked-out tablecloth.

Left with a different body
than you remember,
with fresh bearings and coordinates,
The ghost says to you:
Understand this. Make sense of this.
It's not
optional truth or dare,
but the new state of things.

Suddenly
without leaving a voicemail-
this
is how it is.

There is no adjustment period.
You are not the new pet behind closed doors,
acclimatizing to smells,
exploring one room at a time
a manageable pace-
there is none of that.

The ghost laughs at those expectations.

II.
You are
cracking open.
Revealing
The Solstice.
A change of season,
beautiful,
it comes and goes

Summer enters-
ceremoniously,
naturally,
as though it's always been this way.
More divine and connected than could have been requested.

We are children of the sky.

The cosmos dance.

Embraced with an open heart
arms thrown wide.
Time carries a new way.

Bursting,
because you did it and it's over.

Cut grass tossed into the air
released with the wind

every moment is
gratitude,
salt,
eyelashes.
brimming joy,
grief,
transitional spaces in-between,
all crests of ocean waves
for witnessing.

we are alive
closed fists have stretched open

III.
Each season sneaks up silently
behind you
stands on tiptoes
taps you on the shoulder
brushes lips lightly to your ear,
whispers:
(tucking scribbled cue cards into your back pocket- a limited menu just in case you weren't listening)
"This
is who you are now.
Step into what's always been for you."
